The Fucking Funny College of Comedy

Mon 8th Jan 2018 - Mon 12th Feb 2018
HardeepSinghKohli-Comedian-Writer-Presenter

Are you a budding standup comic? Perhaps writing or production really cracks you up?! Stand up comedian and broadcaster Hardeep Singh Kohli leads this exploration of all things fucking funny over 6 weeks, with the best in class gaining the chance to open for his always sold out comedy festival shows in 2018. Fine curry and excellent craft beer provided to loosen all participants up. The perfect Christmas present and cure for those January blues.

 1. Find Your Funny

This introductory session starts the dialogue we all need to have to find out what it is that is funny from our own lives and experiences. This breaks down into two sections.
A. Each participant will bring a short clip of comedy that they love, comedy that has inspired them to want to learn about the art and craft of making people laugh. (we will need these clips sent in advance to compile into a single reel)
B.  Each participant will bring a story based on their own lives and with the help of the group we will “find the funny”. (again, these need to be sent through in advance. No names will be attached to the stories.)

  2. Create Your Comedy

There is a wide range of applications for comedy. Do you want to be a better public speaker? Do you want to write comedy for TV, stage or radio? Do you want to be a stand up? Or do you just want to have a lot of fun learning about yourself? The second night will focus on what each individual wants to get from this course. I’ll talk about the range of things you can do to help you to create your comedy

   3. Breaking Down Genre

This session will take a look at the range of different comedy modes of comedy from sketch, stand up, satire, end of the pier.

   4. Writing

We will look at how best to write comedy across the spectrum. We will explore the relationship between writing/performing/re-writing. We will see how comedy writing skills can be employed in non-comedy forums.

   5. Stagecraft

Up on our feet, woman/man and mic, this is the purest form of comedy. We look at stagecraft, storytelling, microphone technique, reading a room, improvisation, hecklers and the bits and pieces that take you from a five minute open mic spot to an hour on stage in Edinburgh. This will also aid those who wish to improve public speaking skills.

 6. Performance

We pull it all together and prepare to perform….
