CELTIC CONNECTIONS: FUAIGH

Originally commissioned for the National Theatre of Scotland’s participatory Home Away festival in 2016, the ‘ceilidh play’ Fuaigh (‘interweaving’) reflects movingly on themes of belonging, displacement and marginalisation. It’s presented by Glasgow’s Comunn Uibhist agus Bharraigh (Uist and Barra Association), founded in 1888 by and for islanders in the city, to address these very issues in practical and social terms, including preservation of Gaelic language and culture.

Writer Rona MacDonald and Gaelic singer Gillebride MacMillan, directed by John Binnie, welcome you to a traditional Hebridean ceilidh, complete with songs, stories, visuals by Judy Parrott, dancing and a dram, distilling countless Gaels’ experiences of leaving and longing for home.
