MJ Lenderman is a songwriter born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina.
The anatomy of an MJ record might go something like this: warped pedal steels and skuzzed out guitar; a voice reminiscent of the high-lonesome warble of a choirboy. Songs snake their way from a lo-fi home recording to something glossier made with longtime friends at Asheville’s Drop of Sun studios, but the recording setting doesn’t seem to matter much – at its core, a Lenderman song rings true.

What is a Restoration Levy?
Put very simply, a restoration levy is an additional charge added to ticket fees
which will be directly invested back into the venue. This money will be used
for critical maintenance, repairs, and preservation efforts to ensure the long-
term sustainability of the building.
Why are we introducing this charge?
We’ve always tried to avoid adding extra fees or increases to hire rates. We
know tickets can already be a significant investment to customers, and that
profitability on shows is paramount to the success of the grassroots music
sector. However, most venues of our size, both old and new, do charge a
restoration levy or similar fee.
As the 3rd oldest church building in Glasgow, dating back to 1836, Saint
Luke’s requires ongoing care and special restoration to maintain its historic
character and facilities. This levy will enable us to fund essential projects that
will safeguard the venue’s future as a vibrant hub for live music and
community events.
How will this help Saint Luke’s?
We’ve kept the restoration levy low, at just £1 per ticket. But even a small
amount can make a big difference when multiplied by the thousands of
customers who visit Saint Luke’s each year.
This funding will be a game-changer, allowing us to undertake critical repairs,
upgrades, and preservation work to ensure Saint Luke’s can continue serving
the East End community for many more years to come.
